Who is the psych student?

The psych student may be you, or maybe you are considering psych or another related social science major?  Or perhaps you are a grad student – like me – Phil Kreniske.  I’m currently a Human Development  Psychology Ph.D. student at The Graduate Center, City University of New York (CUNY) and a Graduate Teaching Fellow at Hunter College (CUNY).

I was inspired to create this site after six semesters teaching (two TAing) a psychology research methods course (psych 250)  at Hunter College .  Over the past three years I worked closely with over a hundred students – and common themes and questions kept popping up. I know there are many sites out there that offer information but I wanted to create a hub especially, though not exclusively, for psych students in New York.

I hope to keep this site fresh with updates about paid and unpaid internships, research positions, and general conference news. In addition, I’d like to offer a repository of templates – like letters to professors that students can use for their own purposes. Maybe you want to get involved in research – but don’t know how to go about contacting professors who you may know or who are strangers – and you just like their work. Well that’s the kind of thing I hope this site helps with.

What about my story? I became interested in psychology after five years teaching in high needs public schools in San Francisco and New York. In addition, I taught English and conducted research in the San village of Tsumkwe, Namibia.  My recent work focuses on the intersection of technology and education with a particular emphasis on narrative writing in digital contexts.
